Kelly Osbourne: The New Material Girl
Kelly Osbourne is the new model for Madonna and daughter Lola's Material Girl clothing line for Macy's. She's replacing the brand's former model, Taylor Momsen.
"Madonna and Lola are back with Kelly Osbourne as their new celebrity muse for the spring 2011 Material Girl collection. Photographed by fashion photographer Brooke Nipar, the campaign brings us back to Madonna’s roots in New York City’s East Village as well as in a studio set inspired by the East Village of the 80s with chain link fences and historical images. The multi-media campaign will debut in April issues of fashion and lifestyle magazines such as Seventeen, Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan, in-stores, outdoor and online at macys. com. Material Girl is available in the U.S. exclusively at Macy’s and macys.com."
"Madonna commented, “Kelly represents a true Material Girl. She is edgy, cool and has a unique sense of style that Lola and I love."
Okay, here's the thing. We love Kelly and the pictures are really cute:
But Material Girl is mainly a teen and tween line, right? Certainly these clothes look like they're aiming at that demographic. Is Kelly really that much of a figure to teen girls? Moreso than Taylor Momsen, who's almost ten years younger than her? Seems like an odd choice to us, but we're not Madonna. Like we said, the pictures are cute, though. Kelly's got an innate sassiness that Deady-Eye Momsen lacks.
We wonder how long it'll be before little Lourdes is going to want a career that isn't about glorifying her mother's past. We would LOVE to be a couple of flies on the wall when that convo goes down. "Mom, I think your old clothes look kind of lame. Can I go to college now? Or have a million dollars?"
